Recently, our Utsil Naj Program, which implies the installation of Improved Cookstoves to cut down on carbon emissions at the source, has certified 4 new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the prestigious Gold Standard. With this new milestone, the Program now racks up a total of 11 certified SDGs.
The 4 newly certified SDGs are:
- Zero Hunger (SDG 2)
- Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11)
- Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12)
- Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16)
These add up to the 7 previously certified SDGs:
- No Poverty (SDG 1)
- Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3)
- Quality Education (SDG 4)
- Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7)
- Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8)
- Climate Action (SDG 13)
- Life on Land (SDG 15)
Impact of the Utsil Naj Program
The Utsil Naj Program (“a healthy home for all” in Maya), rolled out in Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras, uses clean cooking technologies to lift families’ quality of life, cut back on firewood use, and bring down carbon emissions. The Improved Cookstoves not only cut down on the amount of firewood needed for cooking but also push harmful gases outside the home, bringing down indoor air pollution and respiratory and heart diseases. Additionally, by cutting down the need to gather firewood, women and girls are less exposed to dangerous situations, empowering them and boosting their quality of life.
Our commitment to sustainability
These additional certifications strengthen our commitment and ongoing community development to tackle the challenges of climate change. The Program aims for sustainability and brings about lasting benefits, promoting a cleaner and healthier future.
