From November 30th to December 12th, 2023, the most important climate summit of the year took place, the Conference of Parties (COP28) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, in Dubai. The annual summit is organized by the United Nations (UN), with the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) hosting this year. Microsol was present through our CEO, Doroth\u00e9e Pie, who was part of the Peruvian delegation led by the Ministry of Environment of Peru (MINAM). We participated in various spaces exchanging experiences, sharing good practices, and working towards achieving goals related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, as well as being part of events on the most relevant thematic in the fight against climate change.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

COP28 is the meeting of 197 countries that have signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. This year, it revolved around six main themes aimed at addressing the causes of climate change and managing the impacts of a warming planet; <\/span>Adaptation, Financing, Renewable Energy, Net Zero, Loss and Damage, and Early Warnings for all.<\/span><\/i> It also focused on four paradigm shifts: accelerating the energy transition and reducing emissions before 2030; transforming climate finance, fulfilling old promises, and establishing the framework for a new financing agreement; putting nature, people, lives, and livelihoods at the center of climate action; and mobilizing the necessary actions to achieve the most inclusive COP in history.<\/span><\/p>

It was a space that allowed us to learn about the new trends of various actors related to the carbon market, as well as to strengthen ties with corporate, political, and social decision-makers, and our stakeholders.<\/span><\/p>

Sustainability initiatives<\/b><\/p>

Microsol<\/span><\/a> has been working for 15 years in Latin America, contributing to global sustainability through the implementation of Improved Cookstoves (ICS) programs that reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) at the source. We manage two carbon certification programs in the voluntary market, Qori Q\u2019oncha in Peru, and Utsil Naj in Central America (Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras), both responding to 7 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Qori Q\u2019oncha is a pioneering program as it was the first program certified by the GS in Latin America. Likewise, we are currently implementing the first ICS ITMO Program (Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes) of the region, under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement, our Tuki Wasi Program, as part of the bilateral agreement between the governments of Switzerland and Peru. The Program, currently under validation, aims at 12 SDGs.<\/span><\/p>

About the Conference of the Parties (COP)\u00a0<\/b><\/p>

The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the supreme decision-making body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), a treaty adopted in 1992 and in force since 1994. It is composed of 197 parties (196 States and the European Union) and its ultimate goal is the \u2018stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system\u2019. Every year, representatives of the Convention\u2019s parties update each country\u2019s climate commitments and establish new goals through a series of negotiations. COP decisions are based on reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
